Anna's hummingbird. View of Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) feeding from a flower. It remains stationary above the flower with rapid beats of its wings. Anna's hummingbirds are solitary, aggressive birds which inhabit woodland and gardens in western North America. Hummingbirds feed on insects and nectar. They can beat their wings extremely fast, and are famous for their ability to hover, and they can even fly backwards. To feed from flowers, they hover by them and reach the nectar with their long beaks. Their agile flight makes them superb at catching insects. Photographed in California,USA | |
