The breeding ground of the Red Breasted Goose (Branta ruficollis) covers more than a million square kilometers in the Russian arctic and the Taimyr peninsula. They winter in the temperate regions near the Black Sea. These highly colourful geese are most well known for their habit of nesting in close proximity to birds of prey, such as Peregrines,Rough-legged buzzards and Snowy Owls. The birds of prey drive off marauding Arctic Foxes and Skuas while the geese provide an early warning system in return.
