Green iguana (Iguana iguana) on a tree trunk. This iguana, which can reach a length of over 2 metres, lives in tropical forests in Central and South America as well as the smaller West Indian islands. It enjoys climbing, and uses its long toes and claws to move about in the branches. As an adult it is mostly herbivorous, and can usually be found resting in the lower levels of the forest canopy. As a juvenile, however,it feeds mostly on insects and lives lower down in the forest in the cooler, moister areas. Photographed in Brazil | |
