Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus). These reptiles are found in estuaries, mangrove swamps and tidal stretches of rivers throughout South- East Asia,Australia and the islands of the western Pacific Ocean. They feed on fish, birds and mammals, preferring dead or dying prey. If live prey is captured it is usually left to rot before being eaten. The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile, some males reaching lengths of over 7 metres. Saltwater crocodiles are aggressive during the mating season and when guarding the nest. They are also highly territorial, and will attack anything which enters their territory. Photographed in Thailand | |
