Grey tree frog tadpole. The grey tree frog (Hyla versicolor) inhabits forests and wooded areas near water in the central and eastern USA. Despite its arboreal life,it lays its eggs in water. The eggs hatch in around four days, and it stays as a tadpole for up to two months. During this time it grows first the back legs, then the front legs, then slowly absorbs the tail, until it resembles a tiny adult frog. The adult grey tree frog feeds on insects and spiders, both in vegetation and on the ground. Photographed in Ohio,USA | |
