Cockatoo waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus). This fish inhabits reefs in the eastern Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. It uses its cryptic colouration to hide itself from its prey, which includes small fish and shrimp, before engulfing it with a sudden gulp when it nears. It has a row of poisonous spines on its back that deter predators from eating it. The sting is extremely painful, but is rarely if ever fatal to humans. This fish may reach a length of around 15 centimetres | |
