Coral reef fish. Sea goldies (orange) and a masked butterflyfish (yellow) around a coral reef pinnacle. Sea goldies,or fairy basslets (Pseudanthias squamipinnis) are common reef fish throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific region. They live in harems, which are controlled by a single large male. Each harem has its own territory, which the male defends aggressively. The masked butterflyfish (Chaetodon semilarvatus) inhabits the western Indian Ocean. It feeds on small crustaceans, worms and algae, and can reach a length of 25 centimetres. Photographed in the Red Sea,Egypt | |
