Migrant sulphur butterfly (Phoebis statira) specimen. The male and female butterfly are sexually dismorphic. The male (shown here) lacks a solid black cell spot and the upper surface of the wings are divided by a ridge of scales,so that the outer half of the wing is pale yellow and the inner half is lemon yellow. The butterfly feeds on nectar from red-flowered plants and can be found in a variety of habitats from southern USA to north Argentina | |
