Metallic wood-boring beetle (Chrysochroa weyersii) specimen. This beetle is long, narrow and flat, with a tapering abdomen. The wing covers (elytra) of wood-boring beetles can be metallic blue, green or black. They are used to adorn textiles and are incorporated into jewellery. As the name implies, the larvae of the beetle feeds on trees or woody plants, although the host plant varies with species. The larvae feed on dying or dead plant matter and pupation occurs within the host plant. The adult beetles emerge during spring and summer and survive for only a few weeks.
