American lobster (Homarus americanus) on the ocean floor. A lobster is a marine invertebrate. It is further classified as a crustacean (like crabs) and has a shell (exoskeleton) to protect its body, and ten jointed legs. It uses its claws to defend itself and for nocturnal feeding on crustaceans and marine invertebrates. It will moult and regrow its shell as it grows, attaining lengths of over a metre. This lobster is found on the Atlantic Ocean floor off the north-eastern North American coast, ranging from Labrador,Canada,to North Carolina,USA. Humans are its most significant predator.
