On Feb 27,2007 a hydrogen fueling station opened on UC Irvine campus in Southern California. The station was built by Air Products and Chemicals,Inc.,one of the largest hydrogen producers in the US. This is the first station in California that is capable of dispensing gaseous hydrogen at 700 bar. The station holds up to 25 kg of hydrogen, enough to fill 5 to 10 vehicles a day. Experimental vehicles from several manufacturers are expected to use this station. At the time of this station opening there are 23 hydrogen stations in California and less than 200 hydrogen-powered vehicles. Shown here is a safety warning sign posted on the fence of the hydrogen storage facility located on premises. Also visible is the standard NFPA 704 diamond with four coloured sections.
