Pleiades open cluster. The Pleiades star cluster is known by catalogue numbers M45 and NGC 1432. There are about 3000 stars in the cluster, six of which are easily visible to the naked eye. These six are highly luminous, young blue stars of spectral types B and Be. It is thought that one of the other stars,Pleione, was once also much brighter, hence the cluster's popular name 'Seven Sisters'. Pleiades is located in the constellation Taurus at a distance of about 390 light years from Earth | |
