Nebulae and Gamma Cassiopeia. These faint regions of nebulosity (IC 63 red; IC 59,blue) are seen near the star Gamma Cassiopeia (upper centre),a star in the constellation Cassiopeia. Nebulae are clouds of gas and dust in space, many light years across. They are called emission nebulae when the hydrogen gas is ionised, emitting red light, and are called reflection nebulae when they reflect and scatter (mainly blue) light. Nebulae contain the materials to form new stars and planets | |
