The Double Nebulae (IC 1805,left; and NGC 896,right). These are emission nebulae, and are found in the constellation of Cassiopeia. Nebulae are clouds of gas and dust in space, many light years across. They are called emission nebulae when the hydrogen gas is ionised, emitting red light. The hydrogen gas is ionised by nearby stars. Several open star clusters are seen, including one (Mel 15) inside IC 1805. Nebulae contain the materials to form new stars and planets | |
