Scorpius. Artwork of the zodiacal constellation Scorpius, representing a scorpion. The stars are linked by purple lines, which trace the shape of the constellation. The zodiac is the band in the sky through which the Sun appears to move. The Sun is in Scorpius roughly between the 24 October and 21 November each year. This is a Summer constellation for Northern Hemisphere observers, and is noteworthy for the bright red star Antares (at the scorpion's heart). Also, the Milky Way is dense in Scorpius, and there are several star clusters and nebula to be seen. The stars which made up its claws are now part of Libra. North is at top | |
