Retina. Fundus camera image obtained with an ophthalmoscope of a normal retina showing the structure of the capillaries which provide the blood supply. The retina is the light-sensitive membranous layer which lines the inside of the back of the eye. The capillaries branch from the retinal artery which enters the eyeball from the optic disc (lighter area). The optic disc is insensitive to light due to the abscence of photoreceptor cells and is also known as the blind spot. To its right the macula is found (darker area) which has at its centre the area of the retina, the fovea centralis, with the highest visual acuity | |
