Thymus. Light micrograph of a section through the medulla of a healthy human thymus. In the medulla,the inner part of the thymus lobule,are numerous lymphocyte white blood cells (dark nuclei). Also seen are epithelial cells with pink cytoplasm and large pale nuclei. The thymus is a gland in the lower part of the neck. It is most active in children,producing mature T-lymphocytes as part of the body's immune system. Brightfield illumination. Magnification: x400 at 35mm size
