colour enhanced cross sectional CT (computed axial tomography) scan through the chest at the level of the heart chambers. The right ventricular chamber of the heart is blue because it receives unoxygenated blood. The left ventricular chamber of the heart is red because it receives oxygenated blood. The yellow coloured structures are the bones: the ribs and spine. CT (or CAT) scanners are complex machines which utilize x-rays to generate cross sectional images of the body. These types of scans can provide large amounts of information regarding the health of the tissues examined | |
