The dish on right shows a positive result; growth of Streptococcus sp. has been inhibited around the bacitracin discs (bacitracin is an antibiotic produced by certain strains of bacteria which is effective against certain strains of microorganisms),but the discolouration of the blood agar indicates beta-haemolysis,the ability of strains of Streptococcus pyogenes to destroy red blood cells in blood agar.
