MODEL RELEASED. X-ray examination. Young boy lying flat on his back is prepared for an X-ray procedure. The radiographer positions the X-ray emitter over the part of the patient's body to be scanned, and he is told to lie still. An X-ray plate with film is fitted beneath the bed to capture the image. X-rays produce images of bones, organs and internal tissues. Low dose X-rays are passed through body tissues to cast images onto a film plate or a fluorescent screen. Body tissues absorb X-rays differently depending upon their density. Bones, which are dense, absorb X-rays well and therefore appear white on a film; soft tissues absorb X-rays less and appear dark | |
