Shingles blisters. View of fluid-filled blisters due to a shingles infection on the skin. Shingles is caused by the herpes zoster virus,the same virus that is responsible for chickenpox. Shingles affects the nerves that supply certain areas of the skin. Five days after infection with shingles,a rash appears with red spots that quickly turn into blisters.
