Camp for Rwandan refugees,Goma,Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). In 1994,Hutu militias carried out the organsied murder of up to one million Rwandans over the space of three months. The victims were the minority Tutsis,as well as Hutu moderates who opposed the genocide. The conflict ended when the Tutsi-dominated Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) entered the capital. In response,over two million Hutus fled Rwanda,fearing Tutsi retribution. One million refugees settled in camps in the town of Goma. Shortly after arrival,a cholera outbreak killed thousands.
