Breast cancer cells. Light micrograph (LM) of a section through carcinoma cancer cells in a female breast. The clusters of cancer cells (red cytoplasm) have large nuclei (blue) indicating rapid cell division. This is an invasive ductal carcinoma of the cells lining the milk ducts. Ducts (white ovals) can be seen within the cancer clusters at top left. Surrounding the cancerous areas are the cells that make up the connective tissue. Cancerous breast cells undergo chaotic growth and multiplication and, unless destroyed early, the cancer may spread around the body with fatal results. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.
