MODEL RELEASED. Technician examines a reagent tray containing monoclonal antibodies, prior to inserting it into an automated screening machine. Monoclonal antibodies are produced by injecting a mouse with an antigen & harvesting its antibody response by removing the B lymphocytes. These are fused with myeloma (tumour) cells taken from a mutant lymphocyte source. The fusion product is called a hybridoma cell. B lymphocytes are short- lived; when fused with tumour cells, which divide indefinetly, the continuous production of antibody is secured. Hybridomas are screened for the required antibody. Once isolated,it is cloned & produces one type of useful antibody | |
