Labradorite (calcium sodium aluminium silicate). This mineral is a plagioclase feldspar, one of a series of minerals that contain varying amounts of calcium and sodium ions in their aluminium silicate structures. Labradorite contains 50- 70% calcium and 50-30% sodium. It is characterised by a colourful sheen on its surface. The surface colours can range from blue through green and yellow to orange. This is caused by refraction of light in crystal layers formed at different temperatures. The mineral can be found in Scandinavia and Labrador,Canada | |
