Nebulae NGC 2020 and NGC 2014,optical image. These vast clouds of interstellar gas and dust have been shaped by powerful stellar winds from hot newborn stars. NGC 2014 (right, red) glows from this radiation and is an example of an emission nebula. NGC 2020 (left, blue) reflects the radiation and is an example of a reflection nebula. These nebulae are around 160,000 light years from Earth,in the Large Magellanic Cloud,in the constellation of Dorado. This image was obtained with the FORS2 (Focal Reducer and Low Dispersion Spectrograph) instrument on the ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile. Image released in August 2013 | |
