General anaesthesia intubation. Nurse anaesthetist (CRNA) using a laryngoscope (green, lower centre) to intubate a patient for general anaesthesia prior to surgery. The tube being inserted is an endotracheal tube, that is placed in the patient's trachea (airway). The laryngoscope allows the anaesthetist to see the patient's throat and place the tube correctly. General anaesthesia is where a patient is rendered unconscious to allow major surgery to be performed. The tubing allows ventilation of the patient's lungs during the surgery | |
