Corneal abrasion is a superficial injury to the surface of the cornea,the transparent front layer of the eye. It is a painful injury and can cause a weepy eye,discomfort in bright lights (photophobia),and spasms in the eyelid. Treatment includes antibiotic drugs to avoid infection,eye padding to allow healing,and pain-killing drugs. Infection can lead to ulceration of the cornea and corneal scarring.
