The word dinosaur was coined by Richard Owen in 1841,deinos (terrible) + sauros (lizard) which describe various extinct reptiles of the orders Saurischia and Ornithischia that flourished during the Mesozoic Era. Dinosaurs were carnivorous or herbivorous, dwelled mostly on land, and varied from the size of a small dog to the largest land animals that ever lived. Triceratops were large herbivorous dinosaur of the genus Triceratops of the late Cretaceous Period, measuring up to 25 ft in length. Triceratops had a squat, tanklike body,a beaklike mouth with a short horn over it,and a long horn over each eye. The back of its neck was covered with a wide, bony plate.
