The largest snowflakes in this image are fused together at two points,as indicated by their slowed growth (less access to water vapour) in these regions. The crystals also underwent a change in growing conditions at roughly the same rime, resulting in a shift from thick, solid branches to thinner dendritic branches. The larger crystal measures 4mm top to bottom, and if the image were printed at 10cm wide the resulting magnification factor would be 20x. Image is a composite of multiple frames to extend the focus across the entire image. Photographed using reflected light on a black woollen fabric | |
