This axial (cross-sectional),T2-weighted MR image through the orbits and ethmoid sinuses reveals soft tissue opacification of the left ethmoid air cells,with focal bone destruction and extension into the medial left orbit with mild lateral displacement of the medial rectus muscle. The tumour shows relatively low signal intensity (looks darker),and retained secretions from obstructed drainage is bright. This represents a squamous cell carcinoma,which accounts for 80% of malignancies in the sino-nasal region. Less common malignancies include adenocarcinoma,adenoid cystic carcinoma,lymphoma and melanoma
