This axial,contrast-enhanced CT image through the upper neck and oropharynx shows prominent enlargement of the palatine tonsils,which is the lymphoid tissue along the sides of the oropharyngeal airway. This can lead to blockage of the eustachian tubes and eventually lead to otomastoiditis. There is increased number and size of lymph nodes in both sides of the neck on this image which represents reactive lymphadenopathy secondary to the mastoiditis/abscess
