This colour enhanced sagittal (from the side) contrast enhanced T1-weighted image demonstrates a lesion along the dorsal (posterior) aspect of the thecal sac and spinal cord throughout much of the cervical spine which represents an abscess in the dorsal (posterior) epidural space (pink,blue,red density). These usually occur as a result of a bacteraemia (spread of infection through the bloodstream) and not uncommonly from distant sites of infection such as the urinary tract.
