This color enhanced CT of the neck demonstrates the typical appearance of a paralyzed left,(on your right),vocal cord,which is light blue during the breath-holding maneuver. The normally mobile right,(on your left),vocal cord is pink. During breath-holding,the normal vocal cord tries to compensate for the paralyzed cord and attempts to close the glottic airway. The carotid artery is red and the internal jugular vein is dark blue. This can be seen with squamous cell carcinoma with fixation of the cord or with a mass compressing the recurrent laryngeal nerve
