Frill-necked Lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii) perched on termite mound. This large dragon lizard,or agamid, inhabits tropical Australia in open forests and dry woodlands and savannah country. It grows to a total length of around 80cms. It feeds on insects, spiders and smaller lizards. Its frill is erected as an aggressive, defensive display and also for heat dispersion. Largely arboreal in habit,it does forage on the ground, taking to the nearest tree if alarmed. It often perches on termite mounds to survey its surrounding environment for prey.
