Dama Gazelle (Gazella dama) are the largest of all the gazelle species. Well adapted to the extreme conditions present in the Sahara desert, these ruminants feed on grasses and shrubs. The Dama Gazelle conserves precious body water by tolerating increased body tempertures, panting through its nose to stay cool and by forming concentrated wastes. The light coloration of its hide helps reflect heat. In addition,Dama Gazelles tend to forage in the early morning and late evening hours. The Dama Gazelle is listed as an Endangered Species.
