Color enhanced sagittal (from the side) FLAIR image of the brain in a person with multiple sclerosis showing extensive involvement of the periventricular white matter (light purple),which is a typical appearance for this disorder. Areas of demyelination occur in the peri-venular regions around the lateral ventricles and, therefore, they often have a perpendicular orientation compared with the long axis of the lateral ventricles. Pathologically, this appearance is referred to as 'Dawson's Fingers'. (Enhancement of BG3616.) | |
