Flint bottled drinking water distribution. Volunteers with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority distributing bottled water to residents of Flint,Michigan,USA. A drinking water crisis in Flint started in April 2014 when the water supply became contaminated with lead that was leached from old water pipes after the supply was switched to more corrosive water from the Flint River. Elevated levels of lead in the blood caused health problems in thousands of children. A public health state of emergency was declared and the original water supply restored. Bottled water is being used until the water pipes are rebuilt. Photographed on 12 March 2016 | |
