Flint bottled water donation at the Metropolitan Baptist Church,Flint,Michigan,USA. The donation was organized by US activist Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH (People United to Save Humanity) Coalition. A drinking water crisis in Flint started in April 2014 when the water supply became contaminated with lead leached from old pipes after the supply was switched to more corrosive water from the Flint River. Elevated levels of lead in the blood caused health problems in thousands of children. A public health state of emergency was declared and the original water supply restored in October 2015.
