Fallow deer (Dama dama) running. This deer is found across much of Europe and was introduced into Britain in the 11th Century. It spends most of its life living in a single sex herd,but the herds come together during the breeding season in the autumn. The fallow deer inhabits woodland and meadows,and feeds on grasses,leaves and berries. It can reach a height of over a metre,although females are smaller than males.
