Hartmann's zebra (Equus hartmannae). Close-up of a zebra's eye, showing its characteristic stripy pattern. These wavy lines act to camouflage the zebra by making it blend in with the wavy lines of the tall grass around it. The fact that the stripes are black and white makes no difference to its main predator, the lion, which is colour-blind. This endangered species of zebra is found in coastal Namibia and southern Angola. Photographed near Solitaire, central Namibia | |
