Bottle-nosed dolphin. View of the head of a bottle-nosed dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). Bottle- nosed dolphins live in all seas with the exception of the polar oceans and inland seas. They live in groups of around 10 to 15 individuals, but much larger groups have been recorded. They are known to frolic around ships and seem to enjoy human company in the water, showing no fear. They mainly eat fish, which they catch during agile chases. Tests have shown them to be highly intelligent, and they have been trained to perform a variety of tasks for entertainment purposes. There is also research into training dolphins for commercial uses. Photographed in the sea off Florida,USA | |
