Langur monkeys. Family of langur monkeys,Presbytis entellus,on a temple. The langur is also known as the entellus,Hanuman or Indian sacred monkey. Their protected status within India means these monkeys can eat crops and steal food without human interference. Langurs are mainly found in forests, but may also be seen in open terrain. They eat leaves, fruit and flowers, climbing down to the ground to drink water and gather additional food. These monkeys live in social groups with a well-defined territory, headed by one or two males. Langurs are common throughout India, where this photograph was taken | |
