Laughing gull. View of a laughing gull (Larus atricilla) on coastal mudflats. This seabird lives mainly along the eastern coast of the USA,the Caribbean Sea and northern South America. In the winter the more northern populations migrate as far south as Peru. This bird feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates, but it is an opportunistic feeder, and will take carrion and refuse also. This habit has led it to encroach further and further inland, feeding on human detritus. Laughing gulls may have a wingspan of up to a metre, and reach around 40 centimetres in length | |
