Red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa). This bird,also known as the French partridge,is native to western continental Europe. It has been introduced to England,New Zealand and parts of North America as a game bird. The red-legged partridge inhabits open field and stony ground,feeding on seeds and roots,and when young,insects. It is usually found in groups,except during the breeding season when it is found in pairs. When startled it prefers to run rather than fly.
