Vultures. Group of vultures (subfamily Aegypiinae) perching on dead wood. Vultures are scavengers that gather in groups near dead or dying animals. They use their long hooked beaks to tear through the skin of dead animals and rip off chunks of flesh. They have fewer feathers on their heads to prevent them from becoming coated in blood as they feed on the internal organs. Their digestive system also enables them to safely eat decaying meat. These vultures live in open country throughout Africa, circling high above the ground as they search for the corpses of large herd- forming mammals | |
