Little egret (Egretta garzetta) wading in a pond at sunset. The little egret,a small white heron,was originally native to warmer parts of Europe and Asia,Africa and Australia. It was rare in Britain until the late 20th century,but is now commonly sighted at coastal sites. It eats fish,crustaceans,fish and insects that it catches in shallow water.
