Cape gannet (Morus capensis) in flight. Gannets are seabirds that nest in colonies on rocky cliffs and islands. They feed on fish such as herring and mackerel,plunge diving under the sea from heights of up to 30 metres. Their tapering tail and streamlined body are adaptations to this mode of fishing. Gannets are aggressive birds with a deep,harsh call. They can reach 80 centimetres in length. The Cape gannet is found on the southern coasts of Africa.
