Light-mantled albatross (Phoebetria palpebrata) on its nest. Breeding pairs mate for life and both birds incubate a single egg every two years in a cliff top nest. They both help raise the chick and feed it on regurgitated food for about six months until it is ready to leave the nest. Although this is a small albatross, its wingspan of nearly one metre allows it to soar on the winds of the southern oceans to feed on fish and squid.
