Pair of wandering albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) in a mating display. These birds nest every 2 years,on islands in the subantarctic. Adults form pairs with a display involving spreading their wings, waving their heads, rapping their bills and calling. The pairs mate for life and both parents work together to raise a single chick at a time. The wandering albatross is the largest flying bird on Earth, with a wingspan of some 3 metres. It feeds on fish and squid, soaring hundreds of kilometres on foraging trips. The species is at risk from fisheries,as many birds are drowned when they mistake baited hooks for food.
